Handforth Model Engineering Society

Introducing "Ron's Halt" and "Meriton East"

Posted by Webmaster on 16/5/2018.

Thanks to everyone who came to the grand opening of our new stations on Sunday! We were blessed with some wonderful weather and thanks to some hard work by HMES members and fantastic support from members of the public, the day was a great success.

There were several static engines on display near the clubhouse, from exquisite 3" engines to Tony's traction engine.

At noon, "Ron's Halt" - our new 7¾" station, named in memory of HMES member Ron Dicks was opened by Handforth Parish Council chair, Cynthia Samson, along with Ron's grandchildren. They then opened "Meriton East" - our new level crossing and high-level station.

Unfortunately, we had some technical problems with Lostock and Gordon, but Romulus and Rusty were carrying passengers on the 7¾" track all day, while a variety of 5" engines were running on the raised track.
